Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did. So throw away the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

According to Parkinson’s Law, the amount of time it takes to accomplish a task depends on the time allotted. The time it takes expands or contracts based on deadlines. If you have two days, it’ll take two days. If you have two weeks, it’ll take two weeks. If you have two months, it’ll take two months. Got something you need to take action on? Today is the day! If you wait until you’re ready, you’ll be waiting for the rest of your life!

This applies to personality more generally. The synaptic connections that make you you are the result of everything you’ve ever been exposed to. In other words, every person you meet, film you watch or book you read shapes who you are!

Call it plasticity. That’s a fancy term for the brain’s ability to “learn” by repetition—an ability that’s certainly not restricted to children. Adult brains are also capable of change.
—David Eagleman, paraphrased from Blink app
That is the whole point of the hero’s journey. It is our identification with a figure who represents the values of the community, and by mythic exploits inspires the community to fight. Because to survive means to fight. There is never any rest. You’ve either got enemies outside, inside, or both. And softness is not going to survive. Can’t we all get along is not a question any serious student of history asks.

Productivity is never an accident. It is always the result of a commitment to excellence, intelligent planning and focused effort….. A wise man once told me that the most active animal in the barnyard is a chicken that has just had its head cut off. Merely generating a lot of activity is not necessarily a sign of life.
—Paul Meyer
Conflagration: There are wise men who argue that there is nothing more abhorrent than war. The wanton loss of life, often for little more than a few miles of rock-strewn land, all against the most sacred commandments of God. War is the aberration brought to us as the burning mark of Cain, who slew his brother Abel for little more than petty jealousy and brotherhood rivalry.
Those men are wrong. It is not war, but civil strife that is the ultimate evil that plagues the sanctity of the Lord’s vast creation. For it is rioting and civil war that locks once-peaceful kinsmen into a bloodlust that is never sated, fed only with paranoia and depravity.
